Activities
San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve
This ecological reserve and nature center is just down the street from The Nest Farm Preschool. While enjoying the trails, we learn how balance is achieved (and often disturbed) within ecosystems.
Birch Aquarium
Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the Birch Aquarium features more than 60 habitats for fish and invertebrates. The aquarium also showcases research discoveries by scientists from the Scripps Institute of Oceanography on climate, earth, and ocean science.
SeaWorld
The oceans cover 71% of the surface of the Earth. At SeaWorld, we learn about the animals living on and below the surface of the water. From petting dolphins to chatting with sea lions, kids will get up and close with the sea life.
San Dieguito Park
Located just a short walk from The Nest Farm Preschool, San Dieguito Park offers a plethora of open grass, wooded trails, and playgrounds.
Solana Beach
Whether we're collecting shells or digging a giant hole, the beach is always a great location for fun, exercise, and learning. Building sand castles teaches the students about structural engineering and teamwork. The bluffs are always eager to explain Geology and erosion.
San Diego Zoo
With over 3,700 rare and endangered animals and a botanical collection of over 700,000 plants, the San Diego Zoo represents a nearly limitless learning opportunity. Beyond Biology and Ecology, students learn about buoyancy from hippos and aerodynamics from birds and penguins.
Farming
We work together to take care of our farm. In return, the chickens and quail provide us with fresh eggs for breakfast. Kids also learn how to selectively breed quail for specific attributes and raise the babies from incubating eggs to mature, laying adults.
Community Engagement
Modeling after the original Reggio Emilia education charter, The Nest Farm Preschool considers itself a pillar of the Rancho Santa Fe community. As such, we participate in beach cleanups, Hellen Woodward Animal Center events, senior outreach, and community kitchens.
Legoland
Let creativity thrive with a park built for kids. Legoland combines fun with construction. They will learn about physics building and racing their own cars.
